Galaxy Backbone PLC incorporated in 2006 and has an official mandate to be the sole provider of Connectivity, Internet Access (Bandwidth) and other IT Infrastructure and transversal services to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government as well as providing a platform for e-education in the country. In fulfilling its mandate the company is in the process of deploying a nationwide fibre optic, microwave and VSAT network as well as other assets to provide reliable and cost-effective services to the public and private-sector establishment. We also have built a world class Data Centre capable of storing a 30TB of data.

Galaxy Backbone Plc’s objectives are threefold.

• The main objective of this company is to execute its mandate, by building and managing a consolidated government network; this will be achieved by using the available infrastructure to provide transversal services and solutions to all federal government ministries, departments and agencies (MDA’s). Galaxy is also capable of providing co-location and infrastructure hosting and management services from our Data Centre and 5,000 VSAT hubs as well as a fibre-optic Metropolitan Area Network in the FCT.

• Secondly, to realize one of the Millennium Development Goals, we are breaking frontiers by bridging the digital divide and providing access and relevant solutions to provincial communities (rural and underserved areas) as well as educational institutions. We are in the process of deploying 5,000 VSAT across the country to provide a platform for e-education and e-commerce in the country.
